Around 300 runners cross the finish line in all races combined each year at the annual fall running of Fort Smith’s River Valley Run Half Marathon, Relay, 10K & 5K, which takes participants on an out-and-back course around Fort Smith.

Sponsored by locally based Arkansas Fellowship of Christian Athletes organization, the race marks its 14th annual running in 2022, and features its starting and finish line in downtown Fort Smith’s Bakery District.

From there, runners follow an out-and-back course route that takes them through the Fort Smith National Historic Site, Riverfront Park, and the Greg Smith River Trail along the Arkansas River.

Though the course has a few small hills, the route is largely flat, especially in the segment of the course along the river.
